Sanford police investigate deadly hit-and-run

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in finding the driver that hit a man on a bicycle early Friday and killed him.
The incident occurred before 2 a.m. along Celery and Brisson avenues. The victim’s name has not been released and parts of Celery Avenue were shut down for hours while police conducted their investigation.

The City of Longwood hosted the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall this week, a 3/5 scale version of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C.
An opening ceremony was held Thursday in Reiter Park where the wall will be displayed until Sunday. The wall travels the country and will make its next stop in Minnesota.

Dollar General was selling it for $4.00, the regular price for Hanky Tanks ranges from $20 to $50.

Suspect shot by Winter Springs officer

Winter Springs police shot a man Sunday after they said he attacked a teenage girl and lunged at police with a knife.
Police said the incident began at the Casa Park Villas around 4:25 p.m. when a girl reported a man had attacked her while she was walking her dog. The girl told police he tried to pull down her pants. She was able to get away, run home and call police.

Mahany reelected without opposition; 2 qualify for District 3

With qualifying ending Tuesday afternoon Sanford will see the reelection of Commissioner Patty Mahany for District 4 and two candidates for District 3.
Sanford residents Patrick Austin and Steve DellaSala both qualified for District 3. Incumbent Commissioner Randy Jones chose not to run again.
