Sanford man, ‘Pork Chop,’ buries boss with front loader, beats unconscious

A Sanford man was arrested Wednesday after he reportedly buried his boss in dirt and beat him unconscious at a job site in DeBary.
Volusia County deputies said the incident began around 6:30 a.m. when a superintendent of a work site – 57-year-old Perry Byrd of Orlando – started to fight with his employee, Erick A. Cox, 32, - nicknamed “Pork Chop”, of Sanford.

Property appraiser releases estimated tax figures for 2016

The Seminole County Property Appraiser released estimates for property values for 2016 and Sanford is expected to see the second smallest amount of growth in the county.
The values include real and personal property and will be finalized prior to July 1 and submitted to the Department of Revenue for approval. The estimates will be used for budgeting purposes within the cities.

Police catch 5 suspects committing burglary in process at apartments

Sanford police arrested five men Tuesday after they caught them attempting to burglarize the Westlake Apartment storage units.
Police said an investigator was on-scene patrolling because of reports of recent burglaries in the area. Why patrolling he noticed five subjects acting suspicious and when he attempted to stop them, they fled.

Sanford Police arrested three people this week in connection with the homicide that occurred in Goldsboro on Tuesday afternoon.
Police responded to the Seminole Gardens Apartment Complex around 12:15 p.m. after a shooting was reported. As they arrived, a Sanford Police officer immediately identified a vehicle fleeing from the scene.

Police arrested three people Tuesday afternoon after a deadly shooting and chase through the northwest side of Sanford.
Police responded to the area of W. 6th Street west of Olive Avenue, near the railroad tracks and said one person died on-scene as a result of a shooting.

Chief Cecil Smith told commissioners Monday that an officer who had equipment stolen from his police vehicle – including two firearms – broke the department’s policy and is now part of an internal investigation.
