DeBary teens to be charged as adults in woman’s murder

The three teenage suspects in the slaying of Gail Cleavenger in DeBary last week will be tried as adults in court, State Attorney R.J. Larizza and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.

Gregory Ramos, a 15-year-old University High School student, allegedly murdered Cleavenger, his mother, earlier this month after an argument about bad grades.

Donation allows Teen Challenge to rebuild facility

Teen Challenge, the Christian-based rehabilitation camp that has a branch in Sanford serving adult men, recently got a donation that’s allowing them to completely build up new facilities to replace their decades-old ones.

Wekiva Parkway Section 8 to Begin Gopher Tortoise Relocation

Gopher tortoises will be relocated from the area where the Wekiva Parkway is set to start construction. 

Preliminary work ahead of construction is underway near the future Wekiva Parkway interchange that will connect State Road (S.R.)  429 to Interstate 4 (I4) and S.R. 417 – finishing Central Florida’s beltway. Gopher tortoises relocation prior to construction is one of those activities.

School grades are determined by a number of factors, including student achievement, learning gains, graduation or passing to the next grade, and focusing on students who need help.

We are inviting residents of the Central Florida community to drop off electronics at the Zoo for recycling. Altamonte Springs implements pilot program to purify reclaimed water

Altamonte Springs City Manager Frank Martz drinks purified water created under the city's new pureALTA pilot project.

Looking to the future, a new pilot project in Altamonte Springs aims at purifying water and also educating middle schoolers on why such things are important.

The pureALTA pilot project is based on taking reclaimed water and running it through a filtration system to purify it to levels exceeding normal drinking water.
