Old jail to be developed into retail, restaurant space

The old jail on Palmetto Avenue could see new life after commissioners approved a sales contract with Mikana LLC on the historic building.
Mikana was one of two proposed contracts on the building at 113 S. Palmetto Ave. About a month ago a selection committee heard proposals from two groups: Mikana, which consisted of Mike and Ana Yebba, and two partners, Mike Smith and Pauli Buster.

During their Monday work session commissioners discussed the possibility of taking over a portion of U.S. 17-92 along the riverfront from the Florida Department of Transportation.
Although there was no formal presentation, City Manager Norton Bonaparte said he wanted to bring the idea before commissioners to get a feel for how they would like to proceed.

Dental company donates $45k for dental healthcare in Seminole County

The RFF is dedicated to improving oral health in Florida, where almost a quarter of third graders have untreated tooth decay.

Hollerbach’s Willow Tree Cafe will be celebrating its 15th anniversary this Monday, Aug. 1. The festivities will include 12 different activities throughout downtown Sanford, including sauerkraut and strudel making classes, beer and wine tasting, and a special screening of their new documentary.

BACK IN TIME: Fishy 1955 Ford tale in Sanford

Fifty years ago, I was age 20 and owned a 4-door 1955 Ford Customline. That car got me 100,000 miles through high school and college. I lived in Sanford, Florida, 35 miles from Daytona Beach. My then girlfriend's father had just bought a new 24' boat and took a group of us deep-sea fishing in the Atlantic Ocean one sunny Saturday.
