The City of Longwood hosted the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall this week, a 3/5 scale version of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C.
An opening ceremony was held Thursday in Reiter Park where the wall will be displayed until Sunday. The wall travels the country and will make its next stop in Minnesota.
Standing six feet tall at the center, the wall covers almost 300 feet from end to end. It belongs to the Vietnam and All Veterans of Brevard County and features 58,272 names, just as the wall in Washington D.C.
Longwood Mayor Joseph Durso said, “Longwood is truly honored to host the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall and we invite you to join us as we honor the service and sacrifice of these brave American heroes.”
On Sunday the city will host a closing ceremony at 2 p.m. which will be followed by the retirement of the colors and the playing of Taps.
Reiter Park is located at 311 Warren Ave., Longwood.
