Sanford police arrest woman for last week’s deadly hit and run

On June 14, 2016, Hannah Tomkins, 21, was located and arrested in connection with last week’s fatal hit and run crash.
On June 10, 2016, Sanford Police received a 9-1-1 call reporting a deceased male on the side of Celery Ave, just east of the Celery Estates subdivision. Officers determined that the victim, Mark Hampton, had been struck by an unidentified vehicle while riding his bicycle at approximately 2:00am.
On June 10, 2016, Hannah Tomkins arrived at the Sanford Police Department to report that she had been in a vehicle crash around 2:00am, and had stuck an unidentified object with her vehicle. A relative of Tomkins had viewed the media coverage seeking the public’s assistance in locating the driver of the vehicle, and had encouraged Tomkins to contact the Sanford Police Department.
Based on the investigation, probable cause was established to arrest Hannah Tomkins for Leaving the Scene of a Crash Resulting in Death.
On June 14, 2016, Volusia County Sherriff’s Office arrested and transported Tomkins to the Volusia County Branch Jail.
