Just over six weeks ago Nat Russell and partner Rob Doney started working on the slender brick-walled and concrete-floored restaurant located at 125 W. 1st St in Sanford. Live blues recordings emanate soulfully from the kitchen along with an industrious hum and homey aromas.

The Choir at Morning Glory M.B. Church, 2600 E. SR-46 in Midway, presented their annual rendition of “The Consecrated Ship” on Sun., June 26 at 3 p.m.   

The Bo-Key Riders Motorcycle Club and Roach Family Wellness partnered and presented a “Motorcycle Rally for Scholarships” on Saturday, May 21, 2016.

In observance of Men’s Health Month, the Florida Dept. of Health in Seminole County (DOH-Seminole) hosted the 2nd Annual William J. Jett Men’s Health Challenge on Sat., June 4, 2016 at the Sanford Health Office on Airport Blvd.   

Jeanine Taylor Folk Art will celebrate the birthday of one of Florida folk art’s matriarchs: Ruby C. Williams. The lady is shy to divulge her age, but encourages a hazard of guesses.
Jeanine Taylor will fete the granddame in grand style with sweet tea toasts, collards and cornbread, remarks and merry-making on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. at the gallery.

The not-too-hot early humidity surrounded us freshly on 1st Street last Wednesday morning as chance would favor a spontaneous meeting (by way of gracious gallery manager MK Shaw) between Lois Simbach and myself. The previous evening’s rain evaporated effervescently in the morning air while we chatted on the sleepy sidewalk and the village came to life around us.

The 36th Year Appreciation Service for Elder Gradey and Sis. Betty Roberson was held on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Divine Temple of God, 1006 W. Sixth St. in Sanford, with the theme, “36 Years Feeding the Sheep” (Scripture reference: John 21:15-17).  

This Saturday, June 18, downtown Sanford will host the Art Walk.
• The Historic Sanford Welcome Center will hold their monthly art show; this month's theme is “Primary Colors.”
