Coyotes claim 22 pets in the Mayfair neighborhood in past few months

Twenty-two neighborhood pets have gone missing in the last several months from the Mayfair area near downtown Sanford, and residents have determined that coyotes are the cause.

Usually it’s in the morning hours, before 7 a.m. And the coyotes are coming from the wilderness beyond their neighborhoods that serves as preserved land.

Now they’re trying to warn their neighbors.

Seminole High open new career building for vocational programs

On Friday morning, Seminole High School cut the ribbon on a brand new career building for their vocational programs, including a brand new aviation program to hopefully get students to go into the field after graduation.

The career building is another arm of the school’s effort to promote vocational trades as a viable alternative to college or university.

The Seminole County Commission struck yet another blow to developer and lobbyist Chris Dorworth’s River Cross project, denying it after an eight-hour hearing Tuesday in which 70 residents got up to speak out against it.

Accused wife-killer given no bond after Thursday court date

Police said Elue Watson, 75, killed his wife in their home (above) at 100 Sycamore Ct. in Sanford.

Elue Watson, the 75-year-old who is accused of killing his wife Alice Watson last weekend in Sanford, appeared in court Thursday and had an arraignment date set for September 25.

His public defender, J. Jeffery Dowdy, had only been assigned hours prior, and had little new to report to the Sanford Herald on Thursday afternoon.

Alligator hunting season began this Wednesday. 

Florida’s statewide alligator harvest, nationally and internationally recognized as a model program for the sustainable use of a renewable natural resource, begins Aug. 15. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) issued more than 7,500 permits, including an additional 1,313 county-wide permits, as a method to help manage the alligator population.

Sanford Police arrest husband for wife’s murder

Sanford Police arrested Elue Watson, of Sanford, for the murder of his wife. He has not been booked into jail yet. 

Alice Watson, 82, was found dead in her home at 100 Sycamore Court in Sanford on Saturday around midnight, in what investigators said was a homicide.

Her husband, Elue Mc Donald Watson, was arrested Monday for her murder.

Longwood police make arrest in July shooting

Longwood police have made an arrest in the deadly July shooting where a man was shot multiple times and crashed his car trying to drive himself to the hospital.

Police said the shooting occurred July 14 in area of Palm Springs Road and S.R. 434. Police initially received a call from a witness who said there were people shooting back and forth in a parking lot in front of a business.
