City of Sanford trades for land by stadium with Seminole School Board

The land adjacent to the Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium may eventually used for a community center.

After years of deliberations, the City of Sanford was happy to pass through the agreement with the Seminole County School Board that will give them the empty lot by the Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium, on which they plan build a new community center for residents of the east side of the city.

Protests and calls for Tax Collector Joel Greenberg’s resignation continued at the Lake Mary DMV on Wednesday, as members of local Democratic and religious organizations were joined by candidates for office and some already in office to condemn Greenberg’s inflammatory statements on social media last weekend.

Police search for suspect in Suntrust bank robbery

Sanford police were seeking a bank robbery suspect on Friday morning after an unknown amount was taken from SunTrust on 1st Street.

At around 10 a.m., an unknown white male suspect entered the SunTrust bank, handed a note to the teller and demanded money.

Then, he fled on foot and ran away before anyone could catch him.

Cheddar’s warns customers about security breach

If you’ve been to the Sanford branch of Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, located on Rinehart Road, their parent company Darden Restaurants is warning you to check your bank account after a cyber-attack breached their system.

According to a press release, branches of Cheddar’s in Florida as well as 22 other states were hacked on Aug. 16.

Sanford legend, Twiggy the squirrel, retires

Twiggy the Water-skiing Squirrel hung up her hat for the final time at Sunday's Orlando Boat Festival after nearly 40 years on the road. 

Amidst scores of larger, sleek boats on display at the Orlando Boat Festival Sunday afternoon, a crowd of onlookers was drawn at 3 p.m. to the smallest boat at the festival, which happened to be pulling the famous water-skiing squirrel Twiggy through an inflatable pool, on her final performance ever.

People call for Tax Collector Joel Greenberg’s resignation after Facebook post

Imam Abdurrahman Sykes, president of the Islamic Society Leading American Muslims, condemned Tax Collector Joel Greenberg's recent inflammatory remarks on Monday.

On Saturday morning, a post from Tax Collector Joel Greenberg on Facebook started a firestorm: “Name just ONE society in the developed world that has benefitted in ANY WAY from the addition of more Muslims… just one. Asking for a friend.”

Now, people are calling for his resignation.

Seminole County deputy arrested for battery on juvenile inmates

A Seminole County Detention Deputy has been charged with battery against three juvenile inmates at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.

The deputy, Deonte Bell, was put on paid leave and is scheduled to appear for a hearing on the charges Sept. 12 for an arraignment.
