Florida is most dangerous state for bike fatalities

According to a new report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Florida is the most dangerous state in the country for bike fatalities.

The rate in Florida overall is 6.2 deaths for each million people, and the number was closer to 7 deaths per million in the Tampa area, particularly Pinellas County.

Commissioners approve funds to expand, improve sea wall along Lake Monroe

The sea wall improvements will eventually aid in the expansion of downtown’s RiverWalk (above). 

At Monday’s City Commission meeting, the commissioners passed $14 million to construction company Wharton-Smith Inc. for the construction of a Sea Wall for Lake Monroe to move forward.

The Sea Wall will be 12,000 feet long and will serve to curb flooding on the streets as the lake rises from rains or future hurricanes.
