BUDGET HEARINGS?

The City of Sanford is in the midst of budget hearings, one of the most boring but most important things that City Commissioners do.

To the left is a spreadsheet showing the trend in spending for law enforcement.

Note that the number of sworn officers and total personnel is down from 2010. However, the total budget is up slightly.

DELTA AIRLINES IN THE NEWS

A few days ago, a Delta Airlines plane landed at the wrong airport. Instead of Rapid City, South Dakota, Regional Airport, the pilots chose the runway at Ellsworth Air Force Base, seven miles away.

Loretta Lynch, the Attorney General of the United States of America, coincidentally saw Bill Clinton’s plane on the tarmac next to her plane at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix. Bill was walking toward her plane in the hot sun. Knowing of his heart condition, Loretta invited him aboard where they spent half an hour discussing their grandchildren.

That rapscallion, Snarky McSnide, did it again. He upset readers who then lambasted the paper on what is called social media. This is the same media that for the last few days has been trying to figure out what actually happened when the Mayor’s car was stolen.
Snarky means well, he was upset because of the unwanted national media attention.

The resurrection of Donald Trump?

Two weeks ago, The Donald was finished, written off, a sidebar in the ash bin of history.

Now, is there new life in the Trump campaign?

Lewandowski has been fired, Trump’s family has taken charge, Paul Manafort is finally running the show.

Monday morning quarterbacking

Mark McCarty hadn’t made a motion to fire Police Chief Bill Lee.

Mayor Jeff Triplett and City Manager Norton Bonaparte hadn’t interfered with the police investigation, compromising the Martin family’s testimony, and then with no cause forcing the Chief of Police to resign.

The enthusiasm for Donald Trump is fast dissipating. The pivot to the center has never occurred. So-called mainstream Republicans have cancelled their reservations and will save money by staying home.

The history books tell us the War with Mexico ended in 1848, when U.S. troops marched into Mexico City.

We had skirmishes with the Mexicans in 1914, occupying Vera Cruz.

Until after World War II, Mexicans were a minute minority in this country. This changed with the need for farm labor in California’s Imperial Valley.
