Do you know about Florida's
bulletproof vest law?

According to Kevlar's website:

In Florida you can buy, own and wear a bulletproof vest.

However, if you commit or attempt to commit a crime while wearing a bulletproof vest you can be convicted of a third degree felony, meaning you could serve up to five years in prison, have to pay a 5,000 dollar fine and spend the next five years on probation!

Dazman Williams, now serving 30 years for second degree murder, was also charged with and convicted of wearing a bulletproof vest in the killing of Johnkevias Carey in front of Seminole Gardens last year.

He was sentenced to fifteen years for wearing the vest. Kevlar needs to update its website info.

While awaiting trial, Dazman got a grand tour of Central Florida jails, spending time in Orange County and Lake County facilities in addition to Seminole County. Osceola County was considered but eventually not needed.

Dazman's choice of a victim was not street smart. Johnkevias had nine brothers and twelve sisters. In November, one sister, Johnterriel Carey, was named by investigators as a person of interest in the shooting of Antoine Haggins in an apartment complex less than six blocks from Seminole Gardens. Based on the investigation, it was determined that Johnterriel Carey asked Antoine to meet her at that location, and was in the vehicle at the time Antoine was fatally shot.  She has failed to provide investigators with a cell phone used the night of the incident.  Sanford Police believe Carey has additional information about the incident that could help investigators locate the suspects who killed Antoine. Antoine's record shows eleven arrests in Seminole County. Johnkevias record shows only two arrests. In one of them police charged Johnkevias with no light on his bicycle. The second charge was a little more serious, carrying a concealed weapon.
