Roger Asher

Roger Asher passed away at age 75 in Valdosta, GA.  He was born on St. Patrick’s Day 1942 in Mineola, NY to the late Harry and Jean Asher. His wife, Carol Greene of Sanford, FL preceded him in death in 1987.  His brother, Laurence Asher also preceded him in death in 1971.  Roger has three children, Roger Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas with wife Liz and grandchildren Elena and Max; Drew Asher of Tampa, FL with wife Joey and grandchildren Caitlyn and Nicholas; Emily Vandestreek and husband Tim of Austin, Texas, granddaughter Valerie, and step-granddaughters, Courtney and Lindsey as well as his long time partner Rochelle Hill, Valdosta, GA.  Roger graduated from Paul D. Schreiber High School in Port Washington, NY in 1959 and the University of North Carolina in 1963.  He then entered the Air Force for a six year tour and achieved the rank of Captain.  He then started his 30 year retail management career in South Florida with J.C. Penney, Jefferson Ward, Lindsley Lumber, Westlake Hardware, and Walmart.  Roger loved to drive, and drove to California, Vancouver, New York and Chicago visiting friends and baseball parks.  His other love was cruising with Rochelle and enjoyed setting sail on over fifty cruises.  
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 12, 2017 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.  A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Sunday, August 13, 2017 in Oaklawn Memorial Cemetery, 4991 County Road 46A, Lake Mary, FL, where full military honors will be rendered.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.  Sympathy may be expressed online at www.musicfuneralservices.com.  The Asher family is being cared for by the professional and caring staff of Music Funeral Services, Valdosta.
