NOTICE OF INTENT TO ADOPT A NEW POLICY

The College hereby gives notice of its intent to adopt a new Policy:

Policy #:        5.041

Policy Title:     Discretionary Student Fee Exemptions

Purpose and Effect:    Each Florida College System institution is authorized to grant student fee exemptions from all fees adopted by the State Board of Education and the Florida College System institution board of trustees for up to 54 full-time equivalent students or 1 percent of the institution’s total full-time equivalent enrollment, whichever is greater, at each institution.  Proposed Policy establishes eligibility criteria for these exemptions.

Legal Authority:     F.S. 1009.25(2), 1009.26(1)

Date/Time/Location of Intended Action:  The Seminole State College District Board of Trustees will take action regarding this Policy at their regularly scheduled meeting on January 23, 2017, 2:00 p.m., Room A200, Sanford/Lake Mary Campus.                                                               

A Notice of Policy Development was published in the Sanford Herald on October 30, 2016, and is currently posted on the College’s website https://www.seminolestate.edu/about/public-notices/. A public hearing on the proposed Policy may be requested in writing, specifying how the person requesting the public hearing would be affected by the proposed policy, within 21 days of this notice, submitted to the Office of Legal Affairs at the above address.

Public Comment
Seminole State College District Board of Trustees welcomes public comments during its monthly meetings.  Any person or group wishing to make public comments should arrive at the meeting early and complete a “Public Comment Card.”  (Available during each Board meeting.)  All documents submitted to the Board of Trustees will be retained as part of the public record of the meeting.  Procedures for making Public Comment are as follows:
1)  Complete comment card including your name, address, telephone number and agenda item number (if appropriate).
2)  Submit the completed card to Board Assistants Cheryl Daley or Meghann Sellers, who will be seated in the rear of the Board Room.  When your name is called, approach the audience podium and state your name and address for the record.
3)  Comments are limited to three (3) minutes for an individual and five (5) minutes for a group.
