FREE KIDS FISHING
It’s time for the annual Lake Eaton Kids’ Fishing Derby at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Ocala Conservation Center and Youth Camp. The derby will be held this Saturday at 8:30 a.m. for children ages 6-12.
Advance registration is required, and space is limited to the first 100 children, who also get a free derby T-shirt. To sign up, call the FWC’s Ocala office at 352-732-1225 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., weekdays. The Ocala Conservation Center and Youth Camp is 8.5 miles north of State Road 40, off County Road 314 in the Ocala National Forest.
Everything the kids will need to fish, including cane poles, bait, and instructions, will be provided by the FWC. The kids will fish from a pier. For safety reasons and to avoid tangled lines, leave your rod and reel at home. New this year, the Marion County Parks and Recreation Department is donating a county park pass to the participant who catches the tagged fish.
In addition to fishing, there will be a casting contest, an arts and crafts activity and an all-time favorite called “Bugs and Critters.” In this activity, the kids get to wade into the lake with dip nets, and scoop up fish, bugs and other aquatic critters. An FWC biologist uses this experience to teach kids about the aquatic ecosystem. The kids will get wet, so they should bring a change of clothes and footwear.

UCF WOMEN’S SOCCER
It was another wild finish last Sunday (Sept. 18), as the Knights rallied from two down to tie the game in the 74th minute. Unfortunately for UCF, a late shot by host and No. 4 ranked Florida (6-2) found its way into the net giving the Gators the win.
With less than three minutes to play, the Knights were unable to clear the box and a Florida player managed a slow rolling shot that appeared to be wide. However, the ball managed to carom off the inside edge of the post and trickle in, putting the Gators ahead for good.
The Knights fall to 5-4 on the season but have shown their mettle, playing another top-10 opponent tough to end.

   • Junior Morgan Ferrara found her third goal of the season in the 58th minute.
   • Junior Bridget Callahan buried the equalizer 74th minute after a corner service by freshman Zandy Soree found its way to her feet.

The Knights jumped out to an early 8-3 lead, forcing the Tigers to use their first timeout. UCF continued the momentum and took the first. The Black and Gold trailed the first part of the second set before Kia Bright aced the Tigers to put UCF up 12-11. The Knights went on a 13-8 run to claim the second set. UCF never lost the lead in the third, though the score was tied four times. The Knights clinched the match with a Farah Rajaee ace.

STETSON FOOTBALL
Stetson football coach Roger Hughes summed up his teams’ first half performance in Saturday’s 24-7 home loss to Pioneer Football League rival Jacksonville with one sentence.
“I just told them the half couldn’t have gone worse because everything that could go bad, did go bad,” Hughes said.
The loss was Stetson’s fourth straight to the Dolphins (2-1, 1-0) and fourth straight PFL league opener. The Hatters fell to 1-2 on the year, 0-1 in league play.
The first half was completely dominated by Jacksonville, which outgained the Hatters 295 yards to just 86. The Dolphins used drives of nine, 11 and nine plays before taking advantage of a Stetson turnover late in the half to take a 24-0 lead at intermission.
Ulysses Bryant finished the game with 72 net rushing yards on 22 carries. Overall, the Dolphins managed just 146 rushing yards, but picked up 213 yards through the air on just 10 pass completions by Rylan Wells, half of which went to Brian Burnett for 115 yards.
For Stetson, Gaven DeFilippo was sacked twice and hurried four other times while completing just 13-of-25 pass attempts for 117 yards.
On the defensive side, the Hatters gave themselves a chance in the second half, thanks in large part to 16 tackles for loss. Jeb Boudreaux had three of those among his game-high 15 tackles to go with his forced fumble and one quarterback hurry. Dylan Wydronkowski and Donald Payne also finished with double-figure tackles totals – 11 and 10 respectively.
The Hatters will try to bounce back next week when they go on the road for the first time during the 2016 season. Stetson will travel to Davidson, NC, to face a Wildcats team that spoiled senior day last fall. That game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.

UCF MEN’S SOCCER
UCF junior forward Matias Pyysalo netted his fourth goal of the season to even the War on I-4 in the first half on Saturday. A tremendous strike by USF's Gonzalo Rodgriguez in the 66th minute proved to be the difference in the contest at the UCF Soccer Complex.
After USF struck first in the 20th minute, the Knights evened the match seven minutes later on a strike from Pyysalo. The Helsinki, Finland, native took a pass from junior Neico Regent and found the back of the net from the right wing off the far post. The marker was the team-leading fourth of the season for Pyysalo.
The War On I-4 rivalry series was announced on Sept. 21 with the Knights' volleyball team earning the first three points of the year-long competition. After this match, USF takes a 6-3 lead on the points scoreboard.
The winner of the year-long competition takes possession of a trophy shaped like the iconic I-4 road sign. A separate trophy will be awarded to the victory of the annual Thanksgiving weekend football clash.
The Knights continue a six-match homestand on Saturday with a 7 p.m. match against SMU. UCF wraps up its home stretch on Wednesday (Oct. 5) at 7 p.m. against Big 10 foe Northwestern.

ORLANDO PRIDE
Orlando Pride closed its inaugural season on Saturday night with a hard-fought performance against FC Kansas City, falling 2-1 to the defending National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Champions after a late penalty kick by Heather O’Reilly.
The Pride came out of the gates strong, controlling possession and testing Kansas City goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart early in the match, with Jasmyne Spencer giving the Pride an early lead on her fourth goal of the year.
Sixteen minutes into the match, Spencer gave the Pride a one-goal advantage with a blasted shot after Kristen Edmonds’ set piece was blocked. Edmonds, who drew the foul, tried to cross into the box but her effort hit a Kansas City player at the top of the 18. Spencer, however, was waiting for the chance and with no hesitation powered in a shot from the top of the arc.
Kansas City found the game-winner in the 84th minute after defender Brittany Taylor drew a foul inside the box. O’Reilly stepped to the spot to face former U.S. Women’s National Team teammate Harris and beat the keeper in the left side of the goal.
Season ticket renewal is now open for current Orlando Pride season ticket members, who can secure their season tickets for the 25,500 seat stadium through Nov. 1. More information on season ticket renewal can be found at the link _ http://www.orlandocitysc.com/post/2016/09/21/orlando-pride-season-ticket....
