UCF VOLLEYBALL
   The UCF volleyball team captured the Holiday Inn Orlando East UCF Area Challenge over the weekend, sweeping all three opponents.
   Jalé Hervey tallied 49 kills on the weekend to push her over the 1,000 mark in her career as a Knight.
   UCF (10-3) opened the tournament with a strong 3-0 (25-18, 25-20 and 25-16) victory over UNC-Asheville. The team recorded 42 kills, 40 assists and 41 digs. Jalé Hervey led the team with 11 kills, two aces and two digs. Jeanne Westney led the team with six total blocks (two solo, four assists).
   The Knights then defeated Central Arkansas 3-1. As a team, UCF tallied 51 kills, 49 assists, and 59 digs and 11 team blocks. Hervey logged 16 kills, while redshirt junior Kia Bright and freshman Alli Sabol registered 12 and 10, respectively. Sophomore Jordan Pingel noted 17 digs in the match.
   On Saturday afternoon, the Black and Gold downed Central Michigan 3-2 (25-23, 25-18, 25-23). Hervey recorded her 1,000th kill as a Knight along with 21 additional kills, hitting .356, and made 12 digs. Junior Ann Richards logged 16 kills, hitting .448. Senior Taylor Gallart registered 11 kills, seven digs and three aces.
   Hervey was named tournament MVP for the second time this season. Westney and Sabol were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
   The Knights, who are presented by Holiday Inn Orlando East UCF Area, wrapped up pre-conference play with thee tournament championships and a runners-up and will open play in The American Athletic Conference tonight (Wednesday) when they host in-state rival USF at 7 p.m. at The Venue. This match will be a black out game and will play host to the first Chicken and Waffle Wednesday.
   General admission adult season tickets are now available for $30, and youth tickets (ages 2-17 years) are $15 and good for one-general admission seat to all 2015 regular season home matches. General admission single game tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for youth, seniors (55+) and UCF Faculty Staff. Admission is free for UCF students. ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD
   Coming up at Orlando Speed World Dragway:
   * Today (Wednesday) is “Whoop Azz Wednesday”, featuring “All Welcome Test and Tune, Grudge Racing and Fun Runs” with gates opening at 6 p.m. and racing from 6 p.m.-to-11 p.m. General Admission is $12.
   * “Friday Night Frenzy” will also feature “All Welcome Test and Tune and Grudge Racing” with gates opening at 6 p.m. General Admission is $12, plus an additional $13 to race.
   *  Saturday is the 2nd Annual Drag Race for the Cure, an event to raise awareness about Autism and Cystic Fibrosis. Racers gates open at 8 a.m. and Spectator gates at 10 a.m. Admission is $20; kids 10-Under free.

   Where was everyone last Wednesday? It didn't even rain in Sanford. (Surely we know not to count on the weather forecast.)
   Eight crews drove through some awful weather to get to Sanford, and then enjoyed a lovely evening on Lake Monroe. What a sunset!
   Tom, Diane and Will won the race. Joe, Laura and Scott on Spider Pig were the first displacement boat. Scott was looking good in his new trimaran. Richard and Greg on Castaway won the drawing for the Gosling's Rum.

UCF MEN’S SOCCER
   UCF junior midfielder Matias Pyysalo secured the Knights' 4-1 victory against Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon by tallying the final two goals. Both markers came directly off set pieces, with the later bending into the net from a corner kick at the UCF Soccer Complex.
   After Jacksonville (3-4-0) knotted the match, 1-1, in the 63rd minute on a free kick just outside the box, UCF (1-3-0) responded 10 minutes later. Junior forward Neico Regent found the back of the net on a pass by Pyysalo, who finished with five points.
PLAYING WITH THE LEAD
   The Knights took their first lead of the season on a strike from sophomore forward Gorka Aperribay in the 38th minute. The first goal of campaign for the Winter Springs, native came on a throughball by junior defenseman Joel Vartiainen.
   Junior Matias Pyysalo converted a free kick from 20 yards out at the top of the box to provide the Knights with a 2-0 advantage in the 76th minute.
   An assist was awarded to freshman Brian Jamba, who touched the ball before Pyysalo's strike.
   During the 83rd minute, the Helsinki, Finland, native bended in a corner kick from the right of goal.
   The markers increased his season goal total to three for the season.
NEXT UP
   The Knights are back home tonight (Wednesday) to continue a six match homestand vs. North Florida at 7 p.m.
   This is the final match before UCF starts play in The American on Saturday at 7 p.m. hosting South Florida.
 
NEW SMYRNA SPEEDWAY
   The 2016 NASCAR Whelen All-America Series at New Smyrna Speedway is underway.
   There will be an open practice tomorrow (Thursday) with pit gates open at 3 p.m. and practice from 5 p.m.-to-9 p.m. Admission is $10 per person.
   Saturday will feature the Marion Edwards Memorial Super Late Model 100-Lapper, plus Division action in the Super Stocks, Mod Minis and Bombers.
   Pit gates open at 3 p.m. Super Late Model practice from 4 p.m.-to-5 p.m. Division practice will be from 5 p.m.-to-6 p.m. Ticket booths and grandstand gates open at 6 p.m. with Super Late Model qualifying at 6:15 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m.
   Adult admission is $20 (reserved seating is $25, the top six (6) rows of the Main Grandstand) with all seniors (65+) and military with valid ID (for proof of age or Military affiliation) admitted for $18. Kids 11 years of age and under are free of charge. MUST be accompanied by paying Adult to qualify for Free Admission.
   The track is located at the corner of SR. 44 and CR 415, between New Smyrna, DeLand and Daytona.

ORLANDO CITY
   In its first match back from a two game, coast-to-coast road trip, Orlando City SC (7-9-13, 34 points) controlled the run of play and dominated scoring chances against Columbus Crew SC (6-11-11, 29 points), but ultimately fell 4-1. Cyle Larin scored his 14th goal of the season, ending Columbus’ bid for a shutout.
   The Lions head to Washington, D.C. for a critical match against D.C. United on Sunday, Sept. 24. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. City then visits Toronto FC on Wednesday, Sept. 28, before returning to Camping World Stadium to host the Montreal Impact on Sunday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

UCF WOMEN’S SOCCER
   It was another wild finish Sunday, as the Knights rallied from two down to tie the game in the 74th minute. Unfortunately for UCF, a late shot by host and No. 4 ranked Florida (6-2) found its way into the net giving the Gators the win.
   With less than three minutes to play, the Knights were unable to clear the box and a Florida player managed a slow rolling shot that appeared to be wide. However, the ball managed to carom off the inside edge of the post and trickle in, putting the Gators ahead for good.
   The Knights fall to 5-4 on the season but have shown their mettle, playing another top-10 opponent tough to end.
By the Numbers
   • Junior Morgan Ferrara found her third goal of the season in the 58th minute.
   • Junior Bridget Callahan buried the equalizer 74th minute after a corner service by freshman Zandy Soree found its way to her feet.
Next Up
   • UCF Women's Soccer, presented by Napleton Volkswagon, will be idle until beginning its American Athletic Conference schedule with back-to-back matches at home. First against Houston Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. and then versus SMU Oct. 2 at 1 p.m.
 
JUNIOR GOLF
   Sanford junior golfers ages 11-18 are invited to compete in an upcoming Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour event.
   The AJGT Beaver Creek Fall Classic at Beaver Creek Golf Club in Zachary, LA, October 8–9.
   The tournament entry fee is $185 and includes two days of green fees, tee gifts and Trophies in four age divisions.

FCSL CELEBRITY GOLF
   As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Florida League relies on donations, sponsors, and fundraisers to operate every year. For the past eight years, Interlachen Country Club in Winter Park has been gracious enough to host the annual Celebrity Golf Tournament. It is the FCSL’s biggest fundraiser of the year, as 30 foursomes from all over the country descend on Central Florida to take part in this exciting event.
   Each foursome will have a baseball celebrity join as the fifth player and among the tournament awards will be _ Closest to the Pin contests on all Par 3s; Longest Drive contest; and 1st, 2nd, 3rd place prizes.
   The event will take place November 13 & 14 and here is the schedule of events:
Sunday, November 13
   6 p.m. _ Pairings Party at Interlachen. A chance to mix and mingle with MLB celebrities while enjoying delicious hors d'oeuvres and a complimentary open bar. A select few celebrities use the evening to promote the Florida League, helping the attendees understand the importance of summer collegiate baseball. It also marks the opening of the silent auction, which brought in more than $35,000 in 2014, and includes a number of unique items, sports memorabilia, and vacation packages. Each foursome will receive eight tickets to the pairings party.
Monday, November 14
   10 a.m. _ Check in opens at Interlachen.
   10 a.m.-to-11:30 a.m. _ Complimentary range balls, putting challenge and an All-American lunch buffet.
   11:30 a.m. _ Shotgun start. Snacks, Beer, Cigars and Soft drinks available throughout the day on the course.
   5 p.m. _ Awards reception with hearty hors d'oeuvres and open bar.
   6:30 p.m. _ Silent auction ends.
   While playing a round of golf at this luxurious course is a treat in itself, playing with a baseball celebrity is an added plus.
