Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Lowe Curry, celebrated her 80th Birthday on Sat., July 30, 2016, 6-10 p.m., at the Westside Community Center, 919 S. Persimmon Ave. in Sanford.
Her color theme of green and yellow was on display in the venue’s beautiful decorations. The Celebration Theme was “Look and See the Blessings of the Lord … 80 Years Old and Still Moving!” Scripture Reference Psalm 90:10, “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.”
Mrs. Patricia Eudell, niece, was the Mistress of Ceremonies. Everyone gave the Honoree a standing ovation as she entered the Banquet Room, escorted by her nephew, Mr. Kenneth Bentley. She was dressed to perfection, in true fashionista style, and wearing the brightest smile.
Dr. Barbara Kirby-Bentley, niece, gave the Welcome. Rev. Leonard L.J. Wilson (St. Matthew M.B. Church-Sanford), the Honoree’s pastor, gave the Invocation. Soloist Extraordinaire and friend Cynthia Cassanova-Brown sang, “For Always” by CeCe Winans; some of the lyrics are, “Lord I pray today and for the rest of my life, live inside my heart, for always.” Long-time friend Minister Victor Dargan gave the Dinner Blessing; dinner was served by Sweet Harmony, Chapter #388 Order of Eastern Star.  The Honoree’s niece SaMya Kirby and Kayla Moore performed a Praise Dance to the song, “It’s Working” by William Murphy; some of the lyrics are: “This is my season for grace and favor; everything is working together for my good.”
Tributes were given by Ms. Cynthia Hicks on behalf of the Honoree’s godchildren; Mr. Melvin Philpot, on behalf of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Steering Committee, one of the organizations Mrs. Curry faithfully volunteers with; and Kenneth Bentley on behalf of the family. Soloist Extraordinaire and friend Mary Liggons-DeBose sang, “For Every Mountain”, a Gospel Music classic by Kurt Carr; some of the lyrics are: “For every mountain, You’ve brought me over; for every trial You’ve seen me through; for every blessing, Hallelujah, for this I give You praise.”
A Happy Birthday Toast was raised by Kenneth Bentley and everyone sang, “Happy Birthday”, Stevie Wonder style. She was presented with many expressions and gifts of love. The Honoree expressed thanks and appreciation to God for His grace, mercy and bountiful blessings on her life. She thanked her family and friends for sharing her Birthday Celebration and for their continued love and support. The celebration continued with dancing to music by D.J. Ken Moore.  It was indeed a very Happy 80th  Birthday Celebration for Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Lowe Curry.
