The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a man they said robbed an elderly couple that was trying to help him in Longwood.
Officials said the couple had befriended the man, who was homeless, and invited him into their home in the 2000 block of Golden Birch Lane. Around 10:30 a.m. Friday deputies responded to the home after the reported they had been robbed by the man.
The victims told deputies once inside the man asked them to loan him a large amount of money. When the couple refused, the homeless man grabbed a knife from the kitchen and demanded the woman write a check for $5,500 and she complied.
The couple was then forcefully escorted into a bedroom and the man bound their hands. While the couple was tied up, the man stole jewelry, credit cards and cash from the home and fled in the couple’s 2014 white Ford Focus with the tag number 116QYQ.
The suspect has been identified as Jeff Anthony Murphy, age 55. He is approximately 6’1” tall and weighs 190 lbs. Murphy has brownish-gray hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and a hat.
