The online programs at Seminole State College of Florida set a new enrollment record for the 2015-16 academic year with over 36,000 enrollments in the programs. Seminole State Online is the College’s second-largest campus, with nearly 40 percent of enrolled students participating in online courses, and has seen a 34 percent increase in enrollment over the past five years.
Seminole State offers a diverse online degree and certificate program with some of the most varied options for students who are looking to create a schedule that fits their specific needs. For the 2015-16 academic year, Seminole State offers 39 different programs, including four Bachelor's degrees, entirely online. Unlike university programs, Seminole State Online offers Associate in Arts (A.A.) and Associate in Science (A.S.) degrees and features college-credit certificate programs. Students find Seminole State’s online programs appealing because they provides a highly affordable and convenient option, as the Florida College System tuition is typically less costly than universities and very inexpensive in comparison to private colleges. In addition, an online education provides busy students with the flexibility and convenience to conduct their coursework from home.
“Online learning makes college accessible for busy students by providing quality education with the convenience of completing coursework when and where the student chooses,” says Christine Broeker, executive director or eLearning at Seminole State.
To give students who choose to take online courses the best experience possible, students are given mobile access on both iOS and Android platforms as a way to engage with their classes 24/7. Students also have access to support via online chat and over the phone. Students can receive free online individual tutoring through the Academic Success Center as well as Smarthinking – an online tutoring service available to all Seminole State students 24 hours a day.
In addition, hybrid courses, which combine online learning with on-campus learning experiences are also available. This option is highly coveted by students who seek the ease and convenience of the online experience but want to pair it with face-to-face faculty instruction and engage with student peers.
New for the upcoming 2016-17 academic year, a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Health Sciences has been added to the online program catalog. This degree meets the needs of a growing health profession and was designed in collaboration with more than 50 Central Florida healthcare industry partners.
