The Bulletin Board: Health Department to hold ‘Family Bash’

Unity Back in the CommUNITY (UBIC) will perform in Orlando.

Central Florida Family Bash. Virtuous Precepts for Prosperous Living in association with the Florida Dept. of Health in Seminole County (DOH-Seminole) will host the Central Florida Family Bash, a free “Back to School” Initiative, on Sat., July 30, 2016, at the Sanford Health Office, 400 W. Airport Blvd., from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.  
Seminole County residents and visitors are invited to experience a variety of family-oriented activities and educational workshops.
“I believe the greatest changes in our communities happen when there is a synergy of movement between the family and vital entities within the community, i.e., community leaders, businesses, churches, organizations, schools, private and public,” said Veronica Smith, Founder and President of Virtuous Precepts for Prosperous Living. “Everyone must join the dialogue and mobilize for change.”  
A panel of experts will discuss topics such as drugs, sex crimes, domestic violence, suicide prevention, and teenage dropout. Other activities: Financial Literacy Workshop by SunTrust Bank, children’s activities, entertainment, food, free books and more.  Panelists will include a Certified Mediator, Social Worker, Law Enforcement, Health Officer, Mental Health Counselor, Attorney at Law, Compliance Specialist, Family Specialist/Community Advocate, and Clinical Supervisor.  
Some of the presenters are Debora Drake, Pastor-Community Leader; Jascinth Brockington, Founder of the Ambidexterity Club; Jucylene Stewart, Assistant Vice President, SunTrust Bank; and Jerry Breckenridge, Business System Analyst, SunTrust Bank.  
“The information presented will positively influence the health behavior of attendees and prepare them to share what they learned with their family and friends” says Dr. Swannie Jett, DOH-Seminole Health Officer.  
Virtuous Precepts for Prosperous Living is a faith-based, non-profit organization offering spiritual instructions, guidance, mentoring and enrichment to disadvantaged families in Orange and Seminole Counties.

• The Goldsboro Front Porch Council, Inc., will host their First Annual Celebration, “Pathways to History”, at the Westside Community Center, 919 S. Persimmon Ave. on Sat., Aug. 6 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Ticket donation, $25, includes lunch and entertainment.

• A Night of Gospel Anthems and Hymns will be presented by the Unity Back in the CommUNITY (UBIC) Ensemble at 7 p.m. on Sat., August 6, 2016 at The Kingdom Church, 1400 N. Nowell St. in Orlando.  
Other well-known vocalists and musicians from around Central Florida will also perform: Vanessa Hawkins, C. Lajuan Adams, Chelvert Wellington, Cece Teneal, Cliff Youngblood, Bilandra Dinkins, Christy Love, Corey Jackson, Ronalda Nelson, Trevor Grace, and Shaketa KeeKee Henson. This promises to be a very special and inspirational event focused on the singing of spiritual songs of praise, adoration, prayer, and celebration.  
Everyone is invited to come and bring your family and friends to hear an anointed selection of sacred music in the form of contemporary Gospel anthems and traditional hymns.  Hallelujah – Praise the Lord! This is a great event for choirs and ensembles to attend as a group. The concert is free; however, love offerings will be accepted.  Proceeds will be donated to Orlando’s Jones High School Band Program.

• Crystal Vision Productions Presents an inspirational stage play, “I Got A Man”, Sat., Aug. 20, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center; 201 S. Magnolia Ave. in Sanford.
Advance tickets, $30; at the door, $35.  (doors open at 7 p.m.). The story, written by Crystal Wilcox, is about four friends and their journey through life as single Christian women. As a result of their choices, their lives begin to change, some for better while others spiral on a rollercoaster of misfortune and chaos.
They realize that there is a lesson to be learned from every choice they make and a consequence that follows. When they are tempted, they will have to make the ultimate choice of who they will serve; will they choose “the man” or “Thee Man”?
