Sanford airport recognized for record growth this year

Due to its growth in passengers and flights, the Sanford International Airport was recently given awards for the Fastest Growing U.S. Airport and for the Airport with the Most New Routes.
The awards were presented by anna.aero, Airline Network News & Analysis, a totally free and open website dedicated to outstanding airline network planning intelligence, produced by a multi-disciplinary team. Sanford airport’s awards were from a category addressing airports with between 2 and 5 million passengers a year.
In the past year the airport has seen a 13.5 percent growth in passengers – a record for the third year in a row. This year’s new record brought 2,480,122 passengers through Sanford.
Additionally within the past year the airport has added 12 new flights and two new airlines, National Airlines and Surinam Airways.
The Sanford airport now offers nonstop service to more than 70 markets worldwide. The Airport’s top carrier, Allegiant Air, accounted for 89 percent of the passenger traffic in 2015.
With additional growth planned in 2016 from Allegiant, Jetairfly and Thomson Airways as well as a full year of operations from National Airlines the Airport is on pace for a fourth consecutive year of passenger growth. And new airline service was inaugurated in April 2016 on Interjet with nonstop flights between the Sanford airport and Mexico City, Mexico. Service is initially operating four days per week.
