“Celebrating a Taste of the 142nd Kentucky Derby and Charity Event” recently came to the beautiful City of Sanford by way of the Pearlie Mae Ford Community Service Club of Sanford, Inc. (PMF). The PMF hosted this Kentucky Derby-themed event to raise scholarship funds to support local graduating high school students planning to further their education.
The Fourth Annual Kentucky Derby Charity Event was held at the Woman’s Club of Sanford on April 30, 2016. Upon arrival, one could feel the presence of being a part of the Kentucky Derby. Before the guests entered the building, they were invited to strike a pose alongside the “Derby” horse.
The Kentucky Derby theme was well displayed with elegance and style throughout the venue. The ladies and gentlemen were dressed in their Derby finery and fashionable hats. The dynamic duo of Paul and Val Brown, Presiders for the event, kept everyone engaged in the various activities. More than 100 distinguished guests, all of whom were energetic and extraordinary, were in attendance.
Throughout the evening guests participated in Derby-style games and trivia, which brought a lively atmosphere throughout the evening. Prizes were awarded for Biggest Derby Hat (winner, Leomia Gibson); Best Derby-Inspired Hat (winner, Sandy Williams); Best Men’s Hat (winner, Eddie Jackson); and Best Dressed Derby-Inspired Couple (winners, Roosevelt and Joyce Hillsman).
Kudos to Chairperson Inez Ford and her committee for an evening of fun, great food, games, laughter, and entertainment. Work has already begun for the Fifth Annual “Celebrating a Taste of the 143rd Kentucky Derby and Charity Event” to be held in 2017. Thanks to the corporate and individual sponsors for their generous support which helped to make this event successful.
The PMF is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to assist in community programs, support charities, provide scholarships to area high school students attending college or vocational institutions, and provide support and encouragement to their members.
