Quest for gizzards

The Sanford Herald's Mystery Diner has been on a quest for gizzards.

When Handy Way convenience stores dotted the countryside, you knew you could find good gizzards when you needed them. Now they have been replaced with Subway.

Where to find gizzards?

We sent the Mystery Diner (MD) on a gizzard quest in the Sanford area. (We didn't bother searching in Lake Mary.)

Lee's Famous Recipe has always had some of the best around.

Interestingly, if you go to KFC and ask for gizzards, you get a funny look and an inquiry as to what a gizzard is.

The MD found two other places:

The One Stop at 17-92 & 3rd

The Citgo on Celery Ave just west of Mellonville.

Both are good but different, Citgo gizzards have just a hint of oriental flavor, One Stop are pure Southern.

Angel’s can cook them up if you call in advance and see if they have some that day.
