The Foundation for Seminole State College recently welcomed 140 business leaders and College supporters to its 33rd annual Dream Cup Challenge Golf Tournament presented by CFE Federal Credit Union, raising nearly $50,000 for programs, scholarships, and other areas of need at the College.

“We are thankful for the strong support of our community,” said John Gyllin, executive director of the Foundation for Seminole State. “It is rewarding to see the level of community engagement with the Dream Cup Challenge remain so high year after year.”
The 18-hole competition, held April 18 at The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes, featured putting and course contests, lunch sponsored by Jax 5th Avenue Deli & Ale House, raffle prizes and a catered dinner.

Before the tournament began, two student-athletes were honored with the Mack Blythe Outstanding Freshman of the Year awards for their accomplishments on and off the field. Blythe, the College’s former Business Department chair, founded the Dream Cup Challenge to raise money for student programs and scholarships.

This year’s honorees were:
Stevanna Ames - nursing major and starting shortstop on the softball team with a batting average of .333 with 24 runs scored. She leads the team in doubles and triples and is second in home runs and third for RBIs.
Andrew Lindsay – allied health major and left-handed relief specialist on the baseball team. He has a record of 1-1 with two games saved and opponents are only hitting .182 against him. Lindsay averages 1.3 strikeouts per inning.
Thirty-five foursomes took the course during this year’s Challenge. The winning foursome was Tom Moore, Larry Pressley, Jack Underwood and Harold King representing Sunniland Corporation.
The Dream Cup Challenge is one of Seminole County’s premier golf events and a top fundraiser for the Foundation for Seminole State College.
