New evidence in the domestic violence triple-homicide of Cherecia Brown and her two children have revealed her husband was stalking her in the months leading up to the killings, and law enforcement failed to report the incidents.
Post-incident interviews showed Henry Ramone Brown, Chercecia’s husband, had violated his injunction on numerous occasions. Furthermore he had placed GPS on her vehicle, taken pictures of her credit cards and stalked her on several occasions.
Investigators said he also asked the woman he was having an affair with to kill Cherecia on several occasions.
As a result of the new evidence and investigation Sheriff Don Eslinger announced Thursday that Deputy Chad Tavenner will lose his job. Tavenner had responded to a domestic violence 911 call a little more than a week before the killings but failed to file any reports on the incidents.
On that day, Henry had approached Cherecia in her children’s daycare parking lot and after an argument he disabled her car. When she returned with a friend to get the vehicle he attempted to block them in, then followed them down S.R. 436. Later that day a suspicious person matching Henry’s description was reported in Cherecia’s neighborhood. Still, Tavenner did not file a report.
Henry’s erratic behavior, which investigators can now piece together through evidence, shows he meticulously stalked Cherecia the day leading up the killings. Investigators said he installed a GPS on her car, followed her to several locations eventually ending up at Chili’s in Lake Mary.
There, he hid in her trunk and waited for her to come out of the restaurant. She was stabbed 15 times before Henry fled in a friend’s vehicle. While two others were attempting to help her Henry returned and ran all three people over.
After reviewing evidence investigators learned he picked up his children from a babysitter and then checked news websites to locate where Cherecia might be. This led him to the Central Florida Regional Hospital where he had a shootout with police before being stopped on Interstate 4 and killing himself and the two children.
Before entering the hospital investigators learned he called his parents to wish them a happy anniversary, and also called Cherecia’s father and left a graphic voicemail where he stated, “I did what I did,” and “I let her have it.”
During a news conference Thursday Eslinger said, “In my entire law enforcement career, I have never seen a subject so determined to end another’s life. Our investigation has shown that we were dealing with an enraged and unstable man who had been stalking her for weeks. This case underscores just how volatile and how dangerous domestic violence situations can be.”
