Police arrested two men this week after they said the two were suspects in a murder at the Hatteras Sound Apartments.
Police were alerted Tuesday when management from the apartment complex called 911 after finding two men inside an apartment that didn’t belong to them. Management was asked to open the apartment after the victim’s mother suspected something was wrong with her daughter.
The mother told police she had received strange text messages from her daughter beginning Sunday, April 24. She received a message stating her daughter was going to Tallahassee and wouldn’t return until May 14, which struck the mother odd. She also received a text stating her daughter had dropped the phone in the toilet and could only communicate through text.
When the mother asked the daughter for her safe word and other personal information, the responses were incorrect leading the mother to check on her daughter at the apartment.
After getting no answer at the door, the mother sought management to help her check inside. When the mother and management went inside in the apartment, two men unknown to her were there packing up items.
One man fled on foot while another continued to pack, but eventually he fled on foot also. When police arrived they were able to locate the men. After a search of the apartment, police found the daughter, Latrice Randolph, deceased in a closet. Police said she had suffered multiple stab wounds and the men had made an effort to conceal her body under a pile of laundry.
During an interview one of the arrestees, Jeremiah Elliott told police he knew Jimmie Elliott killed the woman. Jeremiah told police he did not notify authorities because he was homeless and wanted a place to stay.
Police said Randolph knew Jimmie Elliott and an argument may have occurred before the murder.
Jimmie Elliott, 28, was charged with first degree homicide and resisting an officer without violence. Jeremiah Elliott was charged with obstructing justice and resisting an officer without violence.
Both are in the Seminole County jail with no bond.
