Seminole County Sheriff’s Office unveils memorial to fallen Deputy Matt Miller

Gary Miller spoke at the unveiling of the new memorial for his brother, fallen SCSO deputy Matt Miller, on Tuesday at Lake Lotus Park.

A new memorial was unfolded Tuesday morning to honor fallen deputy Matt Miller, who died in a traffic accident in 2011.

The memorial is along the side of Maitland Boulevard, near Lake Lotus Park, and it will be visible to everyone driving east on the road. There’s also a tribute sign to him under the gazebo in the park.

9-year-old twins die in weekend car crash

Two are dead and multiple others suffered serious injuries after a crash in Seminole County last weekend, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

The crash occurred Sunday afternoon at around 4:50 p.m.

A 2015 Acura driven by 24-year-old Sabrina Patel of Lake Mary was heading west on Markham Road.

Woman charged with manslaughter after her 1-year-old dies in hot car

A Sanford woman is accused of negligent manslaughter after reportedly leaving her young child in a hot car all day Friday while driving around and being at work, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Kailyn Pollard, 29, was charged Saturday morning with the crime after an investigation by deputies.

Goal exceeded in housing the homeless

The Central Florida Commission on Homelessness surpassed their original goal of housing 100 chronically homeless people under new guidances to house them first before addressing other problems.

In fact, they housed 339 since the program was announced in 2014.

FWC: Bears more active this time of year

Passengers on Flight 2102 from Allegiant Air cheered as it was announced they'd get to fly for free, in celebration of the airline's 40 million flights they'd just reached.

Travelers on Flight 2102 from Allegiant at the Sanford Orlando International Airport got a surprise Thursday afternoon when the airline announced they’d be refunding everyone’s tickets for the flight, effectively letting them fly for free.

The reason was that there had been over 40 million travelers in the state through Allegiant since they began operating in the state in 2005.

The students of Indian Trails Middle School had a unique experience Thursday when they got to speak to an astronaut on the International Space Station (ISS).

The activity was part of the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station Program, which promotes learning opportunities as part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Education and Math) initiative.
